Recognizing the systematic destruction of Gaza’s higher education during the ongoing war, the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters will set up a 10:00 - 13:00 meeting on how scholars and institutions best can support our colleagues there.
Asking the questions “What works (best)?”, we will address both the current situation, and the challenges faced after the end of hostilities.
In the Norwegian context the question of academic boycott (or not) has figured prominently in the public debate. This is one of several possible actions, but to a certain degree this debate has been a question of yes or no, for or against different forms of boycott, and other means of engagement have perhaps received less attention. We will discuss a wide range of possible interventions and engagements that might support researchers and students in Gaza.
We have invited voices from Gaza, and we will hear from researchers who have supported Gaza through their own research, as well as educators who have brought students from Gaza to Norway.
