Michel Mayor is an Emeritus Professor at the University of Geneva and a 2019 Nobel Laureate in Physics. He received the prize alongside his student Didier Queloz for discovering the first planet orbiting a Sun-like star outside our solar system in 1995. This groundbreaking discovery revolutionized astronomy by expanding our understanding of planetary systems beyond the solar system. It led to the development of advanced instruments and observational methods, resulting in the discovery of thousands of exoplanets. His ongoing research aims at finding a "second Earth”—a habitable planet capable of supporting life.
